Male Biceps Pectoral and Quadriceps Implants

Surgeons initially used Male Biceps or Pectoral Implants to help in the reconstruction of soft tissue defects of the upper extremity and/or chest. These were result of significant trauma or after cancer removal.

For cosmetic purposes, Plastic Surgeons have used them since 2004 for bodybuilders. While it doesn’t add to the patient’s use of the arm, the use of a silicon implant does provide “impressive cosmetic results” . These are long lasting, and provide bulk to the arm, Chest, and/or Thigh regions, with aesthetically pleasing outcomes.

Am I a good candidate for the surgery?

Your visit with Dr. Wilson will determine if you are a good candidate for Male Biceps, Pectoral or quadriceps implants. Good candidates for male biceps or pectoral implants are men of any age who are healthy and emotionally stable. The best candidates are those who have firm, elastic skin that will reshape to the body’s new contours. In some instances, Dr Wilson may discourage surgery for overweight men, who have not first tried an exercise and diet regimen.

What should I expect from my consultation?

During the consultation, Prof Wilson will ask about the history of the arm and chest size and if the problem is unilateral or bilateral. Dr. Wilson will examine you and will explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate for you.

You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history. This will include information about any medical conditions, drug allergies and treatments.  You should have ready any reports from previous surgeries, and medications that you currently take. It is important for you to provide complete information.

How is the surgery performed?

Prof Wilson makes a cut is made in the armpit region and the fascia overlying the bicepspectoralis muscle  and / or Quadriceps Thigh muscle is identified. Next, he makes a cut in this fascia to gain access to the muscle, and might use an endoscope for that. Using blunt dissection, he creates a pocket just below the biceps, pectoralis and/ or Quadriceps Thigh muscle on top of the long bone.

He then places the implant in this pocket and sutures the muscle lining  with absorbable sutures. Finally, he closes the skin by subcuticular sutures and does not insert any drains. Over time, scar tissue surround the implant and its pocket, where it stays for the rest of the person’s life.

Some other surgeons might place the implant above the fascia or under the muscle. This causes a lot of complications, and Dr Wilson routinely places the implants under the fascia.

Limits of Biceps or Pectoral and / or Quadriceps Thigh Implant Surgery

In any initial biceps augmentation, the Surgical assistant instructs patients on the fact that they can achieve an augmentation of approximately 1 inch in vertical height. Because the silicon implants come in preset sizes, there is a limitation on amount of enlargement.

Larger augmentations may require a second operation with larger, custom implants. Dr Wilson will also explain during the consultation why he advises against combined implants.  While biceps and triceps augmentations can be performed, it is safer to separate this into two separate surgeries to avoid the risk of compartment syndrome. Similar rules also apply to the Pectoral and Quadriceps Implants.

Aftercare of Biceps, Pectoral and/ or Quadriceps Thigh Implant Surgery

On leaving the operating room, the patients have their arms wrapped in elastic compression sleeves to diminish the amount of swelling. The surgical Nurse removes these sleeves on the first day after the surgery. The Nurse then applies a compression garment  that is to be worn at all times for 4 weeks.

Patients may remove the sleeves to shower and to wash the sleeves as needed. Patients may begin showering the day after surgery. However, they need to take care to dry the elastic tape over their incisions with a hair dryer on a low heat setting. Patients should use the upper extremities cautiously. You can use your arms immediately after surgery but should avoid heavy lifting or vigorous activity for 4 weeks. Similar restrictions apply to the Pectoral and Thigh Implants.

What is the cost of Biceps, Pectoral and/ or Quadriceps Thigh Implant Surgery?

Professor Wilson believes that affordable cost plastic surgery is the right of every individual. He will never allow financial restraints to prevent you from having a strong masculine body. However, many factors affect the cost of implant surgery, including the extent of surgery, type of implants, type of skin, and other factors. After the consultation, the patient coordinator will offer you an affordable price quote.

You can find a rough estimate of the costs on this webpage.
