For chin implant surgery, Dr. Wilson will make a small incision near where the implant will be placed, either in a crease below the chin or inside the mouth at the gums. Then he creates a pocket next to the jaw bone, inserts the implant, and sutures the incision. The pocket should fit snugly over the implant, and sometimes he might even glue the implant to the jaw bone. The registered nurse tapes the chin to secure it in place while it heals. The sutures dissolves usually within 10-15 days. Sometimes Prof Wilson might insert facial cheek at the same time as a facelift or nose reshaping surgery.
For bone advancement genioplasty, Dr. Wilson will make a small cut on the inside of the mouth. He then uses a special electric saw operated by a micro-motor to cut the bone on either side of the jaw. Then he will advance the cut bone forward secures it with small plates and screws. He typically performs this surgery on patients needing 9mm or more advancement of their chin.

There are silicone implants and Medpore Implants. The latter are more pricey, but fenestrated, which means they have very small pores in them. Bone eventually fills up these holes, rendering the implant part of the jaw. This gives them a more natural permanent look.
