Some women might lose their breasts to cancer or burns or other diseases. Although a very traumatic event, this might be a life-saving procedure necessary for the patient. Professor Wilson performs Breast Reconstruction Mastopexy surgery to restore a breast that has been removed.
Dr Wilson has a whole set of possible options to create a new breast. These might include using tissue from the abdomen and/or back muscles or by using a silicone expander and inserting an implant. The Reconstruction creates a breast that can be close in form and appearance to match the natural one. He might even operate on the other normal breast, to improve the symmetry. In the normal side, Prof Wilson could perform a breast reduction, a breast lift or even insert implants. Some patients might even lose both breasts, and in those cases Dr Wilson performs breast reconstruction surgery on both sides, usually at the same time.
Your visit with Dr. Wilson will determine if you are fit for surgery, or perhaps it might be better to wait a little bit longer. Patients who are in good physical and mental health are appropriate candidates for the surgery. Subsequently, the assistant will communicate with the Oncology surgeon to obtain his/her approval on the timing of the surgery. He will also discuss with the oncologist the plan of your surgery, and make sure it will not interfere with any further treatment. Oncologists usually prefer to postpone the reconstruction until they are confident that the patients are disease free.
During your consultation, Dr. Wilson will evaluate your general health and review all your medical records. He will explain the types of surgeries, including limitations and risks of each surgery. He will discuss in detail your needs and concerns and will explain which surgical techniques are the most appropriate. Based on your desires, your body limitations and the condition of your breast(s), quality of your skin, and body contour, you will both decide on what is best for you. Prof Wilson will describe alternatives, risks and the limitations of each procedure.
The Flap breast reconstruction involves borrowing skin and muscle tissues from your back or abdomen, and relocating them to your breast. They therefore provide volume and skin to replace the breast. There are many kinds of flap reconstructions, but the most popular are the latissimus Dorsi and the TRAM (Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous Flap) .
The latissimus flap uses the muscle and skin from your upper back that is still attached to its blood supply but is re-positioned to create a breast. This procedure may require additional insertion of a breast implant to provide more volume.
The TRAM flap uses tissue from the abdomen either leaving it attached to its blood vessels or reattaching it to blood vessels in the chest area. Sometimes, Dr Wilson may prefer to reconstruct the breast by skin and fat from the buttock area. Dr Wilson will decide on the best option suited to your condition after he examines you. These procedures are more complex than tissue expansion, but have a natural permanent outcome.
Unfortunately, flap reconstruction ends up with cuts at both the donor site and at your newly constructed breast. To minimize back scars, Prof Wilson sometimes uses an endoscope to raise the back flap. Another disadvantage with flap reconstruction is the longer healing phase. However, on a more positive note, your results are more natural. An extra bonus with the TRAM flap is that you have the added benefit of getting rid of all the extra fat in your tummy.
Professor Wilson believes that affordable cost plastic surgery is the right of every individual. He will never allow financial restraints to prevent you from having a full body. Many factors affect the cost of Breast reconstruction surgery, including the extent of surgery, type of surgery, type of implants or flaps, and other factors. After the consultation, the patient coordinator will offer you an affordable price quote.
