Cosmetic Platelet Rich Plasma PRP

What Is Cosmetic Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

In recent years, researchers dug deeply to unravel the underlying mechanism that the body uses to heal itself. Blood and its components play an integral part in this healing process. Although blood is mainly a liquid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (cells and platelets). Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that can use those blood cells to enhance the natural growth factors your body uses to heal tissue.  The platelets function primarily for clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of tissues. And this is where the role of Platelet Rich Plasma PRP comes.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of tissues. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve healing . Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 5 to 10 times greater than usual.

To develop a PRP preparation, the Registered Nurse first draws 20-50 ml of blood from a patient.

Then he/she runs this blood through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. The centrifugation process separates the platelets  from other blood cells and increases their concentration. Prof Wilson injects these activated platelets directly into your target body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.

How Does Platelet Rich Plasma PRP Work?

Although it is not exactly clear how  PRP works, laboratory scientists discovered that the increased concentration of growth factors in PRP can potentially speed up the healing process.

When Prof Wilson injects PRP in target sites, a billion growth factors start an accelerated healing process.

Uses of Platelet rich Plasma PRP in Plastic Surgery:

Dr Wilson uses PRP as an adjunct to the treatment of several conditions to improve the outcome. These include poor wound healing since PRP improves and hastens wound healing. He also uses it to improve fat survival during fat grafting. Probably, the stimulatory effect of the growth factors on the fat cells improve their survival. Furthermore, he uses it during Hair Transplantation to  improve survival of hair grafts. A marvelous effect of PRP has been in treatment of dark skin, dark halos, fine wrinkles or early aging.

What is the cost of Platelet Rich Plasma?

Professor Wilson believes that affordable cost plastic surgery is the right of every individual. He will never allow financial restraints to prevent you from having harmonious juvenile looks. However, many factors affect the cost PRP, including the type of PRP, amount of PRP and cost of added growth factors. After the consultation, the patient coordinator will offer you an affordable price quote.
